Stake Obtains Operating Licence in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina

Following its recent entry into Mexico, Stake has obtained a licence from the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos to offer its services in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.

This allows the company to provide sportsbook and casino products in Argentina’s most populous province, which accounts for nearly 40% of the country’s total population. According to H2 Gambling Capital, Argentina’s gambling gross win is projected to reach $5.03 billion in 2025, making it the 23rd largest gambling market worldwide.

In its announcement, Stake highlighted Argentina’s strong sporting culture and high digital adoption. Diana Otalora, Stake’s General Manager for Latin America, described the move as a natural step in the company’s regional growth.

“We have been steadily expanding across Latin America, and this launch in Argentina supports our goal of becoming a leading entertainment brand in the region,” Otalora stated. “It’s a market full of passion and identity, and we look forward to offering our sportsbook and casino services to local players via Stake.bet.ar.”

Fragmented regulatory landscape in Argentina

Argentina operates a decentralised licensing system where each province regulates gambling independently. Most of the 23 provinces have introduced online gambling rules, while Buenos Aires functions as an autonomous city. This framework is based on the country’s constitution.

Although there is interest in a unified federal framework, inter-agency cooperation has improved, including website blocking with ENACOM and restrictions on illegal payments through the Central Bank.

Stake’s fifth regulated market in Latin America

Stake is now licensed in five Latin American markets: Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, and Mexico. The company continues to strengthen its regulated operations in the region ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Otalora noted that Latin America is a strategic priority, with a tailored approach for each market due to differences in regulations, user behaviour, and sports preferences.
